Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) – Cloves soothe the digestive tract and stimulate digestion by promoting the production and release of bile from the liver and gallbladder. They also have far reaching anti-bacterial and analgesic properties.
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) – Contains many plant derived compounds that have anti-inflammatory and health promoting qualities. Useful for digestive complaints, over-acidity and detoxification.
Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) – Rich in polyphenols and antioxidants that help boost the immune system. Rooibos is also anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-mutagenic, free-radical scavenging and rich in quercetin, which is beneficial for cardiovascular health.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) – Ginger has broad-spectrum anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps ignite digestive fire and calm intestinal spasms. Ginger is a famously potent circulatory stimulant, promoting blood flow, warmth and energy to the body.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) – An aromatic and sweet spice that supports healthy digestion, feelings of fullness and assists with inflammation. Cinnamon also contains powerful anti-fungal properties and has been clinically proven to balance blood sugar levels, reduce sweet cravings and lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
Star anise (Illicium verum) – Contains antioxidant, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and is useful for digestive and respiratory complaints. Star anise also contains Shikimic acid, which when combined with quercetin (like in Rooibos), has yielded impressive results in increasing immune function.
WHY IS OUR CHAI DIFFERENT?
Rooibos chai is hand-blended in small batches from organically grown spices, herbs and rooibos, adhering to its traditional way of preparation. However, we don’t bulk up this chai with Camellia sinensis (tea), allowing the spices to shine stronger and bring you more benefits. Rooibos has a lower tannin content compared to black or green tea. This means you can enjoy the spices as they develop together and individually, without the bitter tannins that are produced from long-steeped tea. So reuse your chai multiple times and enjoy the different tones and layers cup after cup!
